Coal - Fast Track Scheme
Coal Fast-Track Scheme

Nigel Griffiths M.P., THE DTI Minister responsible for the Government's Coal Health Compensation Scheme, the world's largest personal injury compensation scheme, announced a new fast-track process ( starting 28th February 2005 ) for miners with lung damage.

Miners can opt for the fast-track scheme or for a full medical assessment. The fast-track arrangements are designed to help those miners whose lungs have suffered the least damage.

Nigel Griffiths said, " Each miner should decide, in consultation with their solicitor or advisor, whether the fast-track option is best for them. As well as the 100,000 miners who can opt into this scheme, there are 60,000 widows and families who will be eligible for the fast-track scheme from June, based on the late miner's death certificate."
