More accidents occur during the course of work than anywhere else. Each year thousands of people suffer all kinds of injury every year due to an accident at work during the course of their work, in offices and shops, factories and building sites.

Accident at work What is an Accident at work?

An accident at work is defined as "a discrete occurrence in the course of work which leads to physical or mental harm". This includes cases of acute poisoning and wilful acts of other persons but excludes deliberate self-inflicted injuries, accidents on the way to and from work (commuting accidents), accidents having only a medical origin and occupational diseases. The phrase "in the course of work" means "whilst engaged in an occupational activity or during the time spent at work". Therefore an accident at work includes cases of road traffic accidents as well as accidents in public places or means of transport during a journey in the course of work.
